We're very excited to start working with a fantastic local group, This Able Veteran. TAV is a unique program that provides and trains PTSD service dogs for veterans. The dogs are trained to provide a number of services, ranging from recognizing early warning signs of panic attacks and interrupting nightmares to providing mobility assistance when necessary. Each dog is trained specially for a particular veteran, so the dog responds to his or her unique symptoms and needs. The program has numerous testimonials to it's effectiveness, which are incredibly powerful (some are shared on the program's website). We'll be collaborating with TAV to supplement these individual stories with an empirical investigation of the program's effectiveness. We're honored to be involved with such a tremendous group and look forward to working together.

Incoming graduate students to SIU's clinical psychology program Fall 2019
Dr. Kertz is planning to add a new graduate student to her lab in Fall 2019. Although SIU does not operate on a strict mentor model (meaning students are free to move between labs and mentors), fit with research lab interests is important. Dr. Kertz is currently on sabbatical at Washington University in St. Louis.
